“Ekko Monument”, permanent sculptural installation at Tangkrogen Aarhus bay, Denmark, 2018.
“Ekko Monument” is based on ”The White City by the Sea” exposition (Landsudstillingen), held in Aarhus in 1909. The work commemorates this event, and viewers are invited into the work, to walk underneath the pavilions. The work consists of a series of light skeletal structures which are sculptural models of “ The White City by the Sea” pavilions (size 1/10 of original buildings). The first version of the work was “Echo Monument” from 2009 (exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea 2009), a temporary structure made primarily in wood. In 2017 Karen Land Hansen was commissioned by a committee based in Aarhus, Monumentudvalget, to make a new and permanent version in steel. The work was funded by Fritse and Jens Meyer and given to Aarhus City Council. It was crafted at the forge Waldemar Christensens Smedie.
